Black America will “fiercely” rally behind Coach Prime,
for we are all too familiar with the harsh
realities of “where” we are and “who” we are
dealing with. Our support for Coach Prime is a
bodacious statement, a powerful declaration
that we will no longer accept anything less
than what we deserve. We have been beaten
down, discriminated against, and held back for
far too long. So watch out, because Black
America is coming, and we are coming with a
righteous vengeance.
The zealous MAGA minions, who
also happen to be die-hard football fanatics,
will turn their backs and unleash their venom
on Coach Prime and his Buffalo Soldiers after
their first loss of the season.
Let’s not talk about it….
They can no longer stomach his unapologetic Blackness, despite their initial half-hearted and begrudging support
during the team’s impressive 3-0 start.
But Black America will stand
firm, stand by our Black man, for we
understand the gravity of this moment and the
significance it holds for future generations.
This will be etched in history as a defining
moment when a Black man dared to lead and
excel in a world dominated by White men who
profess to be “Negro-Whisperers.”
What time is it? It’s time for Black Power
to make a statement! Yeah, we commin!
What time is it? A time in which the racial and cultural
divide in America has reached a boiling point,
Yankee Stew, Gumbo, a “Melting Pot,” please
try a “Frying Pan.”
America 2023 is the time and
place where “push has come to shove” and
tensions are at an all-time high. The worn
fabric of our nation is tearing apart,
revealing the ugly truth of deep-rooted
discrimination and prejudice. The colors of
our diversity have faded into shades of anger
and resentment, as we struggle to find merely
“common” ground in a society that is tearing
itself apart.
This is not just a mere “clash” of opinions, but a battle
for the very soul of our nation. The wounds of our past have been
ripped open, and the scars of injustice are
bleeding once again. It’s time to face the
harsh reality that we are a nation divided,
and the consequences of our actions will be
felt for generations to come.
“Football,”
the all-consuming, gladiatorial spectacle
that reigns supreme from the Pee-Wee fields
to the NFL stadiums - is not just a game,
but a battleground for this national ongoing
cultural war.
From the innocent beginnings of
Pee-Wee and Little League, where dreams are
born, and crushed, to the cutthroat
competition of high school and college, where
the stakes are higher and the pressure
suffocating, football is a microcosm of
America’s assorted “isms,” ills and woes -
society’s obsession with winning at all costs.
At the highest level, the NFL, it is a
multi-billion dollar monopoly/cartel that
feeds on the blood, sweat, and tears of its
vastly ebony-skinned players, while the mostly
Caucasian owners and executives reap the
rewards.
But beneath the bright lights
and roaring crowds, lies a darker truth - one
of exploitation, corruption, and greed. The
glitz and glamor of the game mask the
deep-seated issues of racism, sexism, and
inequality that continue to plague our nation.
And yet, every Sunday, we tune in, cheering on
our favorite teams, oblivious to the ugly
underbelly of the sport we so passionately
adore.
On Saturdays, the ivory towers
of academia transform into gladiator arenas,
where teams clad in school colors clash in a
display of power and privilege. But beyond the
surface of school pride and athletic prowess
lies a deeper, more insidious truth. These
teams and the institutions they represent are
a reflection of the unchecked White privilege,
arrogance, and dominance that still reigns
supreme in America. Wealthy White students,
and working class/poor Black players - it is a
stark reminder of the cultural battlefield
that continues to divide our nation. The very
schools, neighborhoods, and towns from which
these teams hail are often built on the backs
of marginalized communities, their success
fueled by the exploitation and oppression of
others.
As the NFL takes center stage
on Sundays, it becomes a glaring reminder of
the archaic and oppressive systems that still
thrive in our society. Million-dollar slaves,
paraded around for the entertainment of the
masses, while the gazillion-dollar plantation
owners like Jerry “Sweet-daddy” Jones reap the
profits. It’s a modern-day plantation, where
the players are mere pawns in a game
controlled by the wealthy and powerful. And
yet, we continue to cheer and support this
modern-day slavery, blinded by the bling and
blang of the sport. But make no mistake, the
NFL is a clear and precise example of the good
old boys’ establishment at work, perpetuating
a cycle of exploitation and inequality.
Sunday, also the holy day of
the week, where the pews are divided by the
color of their skin, where segregation is
still alive and well, thriving in the very
place where we are supposed to find unity and
love. The hypocrisy is palpable, as White and
Black churches stand tall, side by side, yet
worlds apart.
Kinda’,’ sorta’ how the
Neo-Confederacy, MAGA Land, is, but 15 minutes
outside every significant US city….
Monday through Friday, the
education system continues to perpetuate the
insidious practice of segregation, with public
and private schools carefully divided along
racial lines. And even within the same
building, classrooms, programs, and academic
achievements are starkly segregated. But the
injustice doesn’t end there. The workplace is
a microcosm of this systemic discrimination.
Black individuals are confined to menial,
blue-collar jobs, while their white
counterparts enjoy the luxury of working from
home and indulging in trendy brunch spots in
the gentrified heart of the city.
Amidst the stark and undeniable division that plagues this
land daily, Deion Sanders stands at the helm
of the University of Colorado’s 75% Black
football team, a group of fierce Buffalo
Soldiers who call the elitist, progressive
haven of “The Republic of Boulder” their “home” field. And yet, despite the animosity from the
surrounding Make America Great.../White
Again crowd, Deion and his NIL-paid players thrive, living a life of quasi-luxury that
was once reserved only for the privileged
White elite.
The mere mention of CU’s last national championship
victory sends a shiver down the spine of those
who remember the glory days of Signal Caller Charles Johnson, and his “merry” men, like Eric Bienemy and Alfred
Williams. But let’s not forget, the next time the Buffaloes hoist
that coveted trophy, it won’t be just one
Black man leading the charge, but two: Sanders
and Sanders.
It’s a bittersweet thought, isn’t it? While the rest of
the “civilized” world celebrates the triumph
of diversity and progress, there will
undoubtedly be a nation-wide group of redneck
spectators, professional pundits, and affluent
alumni - neanderthals and cavemen, who will be seething with resentment. How dare these two Black men achieve what
they couldn’t?
How dare they do it their way,
with the unapologetic swagger of Coach Prime?
Call it Black Power!
It’s almost poetic justice,
really. The very same people who once reveled
in CU’s success will now be forced to confront
their own prejudices and shortcomings. And in
sweet time, when the Buffaloes raise that
championship trophy once again, it will be a
colorful reminder that true victory lies in
breaking down exclusionary barriers and
defying expectations. So let them be inflamed,
let them be insulted. Because in the end, it
will only add to the electric energy of this
historic moment.
I think those good old boys
would rather lose with a 75% White kid squad
than win with Deion and his Buffalo Soldiers.
This is not the land of the
free and the home of the brave, but a
fractured nation where division and animosity
reign supreme.
