Be
afraid. Be very afraid.
The
motley picks for cabinet positions by trump
mirrors his distorted view of governance and
power. The main thing these cronies have in
common is their unfettered and unconditional
loyalty to trump. This is a required trait for
a wanna-be dictator who is now more dangerous
the second time around.
In
his first term, we saw that trump was clueless
about what it takes to be the leader of a real
country, lacking knowledge about science,
history, geography and cultures. He has
learned how to be a better bully, a dodger of
laws, and a master capitalist. He also has a
real army under his command along with a
75-million citizen army. With his Project 2025
blueprint, trump is ecstatic about taking that
oath on January 20.
The
presidential cabinet is comprised of at least
16 positions which includes the vice president
and the heads of the 15 executive departments.
Some of these positions require Senate
approval by majority, others do not. Please
note that new positions and departments are
being created, like the one on Government
Efficiency. So much for smaller government.
We
know that three of his cabinet come with
allegations of sexual misconduct. This should
come as no surprise that the president-elect -
a convicted sex offender - would know other
predators and think they are worthy of these
high-profile positions.
Matt
Gaetz was nominated as attorney general, the
person who enforces the law of the land. Gaetz
was the subject of a federal sex trafficking
investigation. He’s also accused of having sex
with a teen. He withdrew from the race today.
The choice for defense secretary is also
accused of sexual assault. Pete Hegseth, a Fox
News host, is already being scrutinized for
his lack of military experience. Then there’s
Robert Kennedy, Jr. with no background in
medicine or public health. The man who
asserted the debunked theory that vaccines
cause autism, he is slated to head up Health
and Human Services. It was reported that he
apologized to a former nanny for his wandering
hands.
The
rest of the nominees bring baggage that should
cause alarm by the Congress but I’m betting
that they will express their hypocritical,
moralistic views and the U.S. Senate will vote
most of them in. If approved, these Cabinet
members will throw the government into chaos,
subterfuge for the robbery of our taxes for
pet projects, lobbyists and bribes.
For
many, the election of trump is still
bewildering, but we cannot remain
disillusioned or hopeless. We must be
organizing to do more than manage damage
control. We must build a formidable united
front for justice and democracy. We must
expose and isolate those corporate and
government enemies who plan to strip us of our
civil liberties and human rights.
Dr.
Martin Luther King was not envisioning the
“difficult days ahead” in 2025. I’m sure he
thought this nation would be much further
along in the development of a just and
peaceful society. How we as the rising
majority respond today to protect our lives
and save our futures will depend on how far we
bend the arc towards justice.
