Have You Seen Her? - Poetic Black Fusion By Poet Blackman Preach, BlackCommentator.com Spoken Word Columnist (includes MP3 audio)

Have You Seen Her?

Multi-tasking in between jobs

& preparing meals

she nurtures her young

to be confident in a daily stride

against the odds

& smiles as her three daughters

Gwen, Cassandra & Jennifer

who’s jumping rope outside

with a book in hand

& giggling with the other girls

they all swear an oath to sisterhood

Have You Seen Her?

getting all educated with

dreams of becoming surgeons

dreams of handling civil law cases

dreams of being an activist

dreams of dancing in recitals

dreams of writing poetry

dreams of putting lesson plans together

the businesswoman making a fortune

owning several coliseums

Have you Seen Her?

dressed in fancy wares

on the yard that we call the world

her pointer is on access to success

imagine her: she's woman of color

telling the world to get out the way of the

African Latina Asian Native American

from grade school to college grad

stepping with a head risen & a 4.0

Have You Seen Her?

The only intelligent woman to meet

Louise, Ruby, Priscilla & get their approval

pay attention

these same women taught me all that I know

watched me struggle to take my firsts steps

next to God
these women
whom I credit

will never let me fail.
