PREJUDICE: ME?
By Joe Navarro
BlackCommentator.com Guest Commentator

I know that I am prejudiced
Against some people. Yes me.
They revile me and make me sick,
And why? You will see.

They are people who disgust me;
I have no use for them.
This disdain I feel
From where does it stem?

It's a feeling from within
That has fermented over the years.
My emotional responses from rage
To anger to tears.

There are people in this nation that
I can't stand. Yes, I feel prejudice.
Yes me. This Chicano
Activist fighter for social justice.

They have names like Nazis,
Ku Klux Klan and Neo Nazis and skin heads.
They are White Citizens Councils, Tea Party
Activists and sometimes the Feds.

They are governors of states like Arizona
Or racist cops who kill unarmed young men.
Sometimes they are my neighbors,
Sometimes they are parents of children.

But they all have one thing in common
They love to hate and hate to love.
They are intolerant, ignorant and narrow minded
And believe compared to "others" they are above.

So, when people ask me if I am prejudiced.
I have to be honest. I have to say yes.
I am prejudiced against racists and bigots
And all those who treat people as less.
