Last
century, back in the 1960’s and 70’s, when I was a mere
lad growing-up in the 213, South Central LA, there were, let us say
“limitations” placed upon black folk’s aspirations,
big n’ small, in all walks of life, and LA was lax in its
oppression compared to other parts of officially/unofficially
segregated America. Los Angeles wasn’t LA, i.e., lower Alabama,
instead it was one of the more progressive if not “enlightened”
utopias for black folks to dwell.
Nonetheless
. . . .
As
a little colored/negro/black boy I tragically understood there were
certain things, I guess particular occupations I couldn’t hold,
despite, regardless of what my folks told me about equality :
quarterback in the NFL being one, and another being an astronaut for
NASA, a pro-golfer like the cool cats on ABC’s Wide, Wide World
Of Sports. Nor if I were a girl, I think I’d knew the world of
pro tennis wasn’t really for me, despite the reign of Althea
Gibson . . . And I sure as hell knew I couldn’t be a NASCAR
racer nor could I, even if a girl . . . could not be President of
these so-called United States of America.
That
“preferred” America of the 1960’s and 70’s,
when everyone knew their assigned places explains why today
Kaepernick, Tiger, Serena and Obama are so hated by millions, and
millions and millions . . . and millions of white folks.
These
black Americans represent and embody change, more
specifically the exchange of, knowledge, wealth, money,
influence and societal clout from one white hand to a hand of color .
. . with a fresh manicure of course. Don’t nobody want to
grow-up to be Kid Rock, Ted Nugent or Donald Trump, for
they represent and embody all that is right-wingedly wrong with
America.
We
could all get along if white men would just shut the blank-up for
once.
No,
instead they despise and oppose the unwashed masses of dirty colored
people and negro luvin’ liberals who’ve purchase
Kaepernick jerseys, posters and stock in Nike which backs
“Kaepernick . . . not Tim Tebow, who was the last artificially
inflated but now deflated “great white hope . . . / dope.”
Recall Tebow, the great “chosen” “all-American”
messiah whose gridiron demise says so much about white privilege in
the NFL. Tebow, Brady, the Mannings all represent “giving the
people, i.e., white people what they want . . .” which is a
return to yesteryear, 1963. When a White running backs, receivers
and, believe it or not cornerbacks were the league norm and
standard.
Speaking
of norms and standards, there’s a tragic marginalization of
what Tiger “Who” and the Williams sisters accomplished .
. . they kicked-down the country club doors which kept the human
trash out of gentlemen and ladies recreational endeavors . . . Joe
Louis, Sugar Ray Robinson and Ali transforming boxing was one thing,
while football and basketball and even baseball were one thing, but
golf and tennis, that was different.
Tiger
showing his stripes of color and sleeping with all them white women .
.. while he was redefining the game of golf, making them redesign
golf courses, ‘Tiger-proofing” them as to diminish his
reign of terror. Kinda how the NFL redefined the QB position for
mobile statues of men for as long as they could fake it, now my
homie, McHomes, along with Russell Wilson, and Cam are redefining the
alpha-male golden boy filed general position which allegedly,
according to white insight demanded skills and characteristics black
men didn't come equipped with . . only white guys.
Leadership,
intelligence, character, guts, human elements we black folks
were inherently void of, according to white folks.
Ain't
that a bitch?
Speaking
of bitches, that’s the “term of endearment” a lot
of white folks apply to Serena behind they’re fortified
suburban and rural home’s doors. Why, because she’s
redefined not just the game of ladies tennis, but also what a lady is
. . . most white men, who suffer from MPS (Micro Penis Syndrome) . .
. which is all in the head . . . are intimidated by a real
woman, it’s that Romper Room simple.
Speaking
again of norms and standards . . . a black president was not
conceivable, doable or attainable in our little minds way back then
in the time of platforms and bell bottoms. Or as we called them “Fred
Astaires’” A black president was a sin against Mother
Nature’s natural order of things . . . a black man, let alone
colored woman sleeping in the White House . . . that was a
“far-fetched” notion in the minds of most.
A
brother holding the US nuclear codes . . . no a black man would have
in 1970, 1980, 1990, even in 2000 would have believed it - it would
be “that’s outta my department.”
The
success of these Black folks, and the trickle-down impact they’ve
leveled-upon sports and the greater society as a whole angers and
disgust a large slice of white America, they see it as “taking
their country,” their national pastimes and “making them
black,” far too black for most of white America’s bland
taste buds. Their success makes them the most hated black folks in
America. I’d wear that tag with pride and honor, like a medal.
That
was King Trump’s angry white people “war cry,” that
they’d “take back America, and make it whiter again!”
Look around, they meant it.
