The
following letter was sent to the Denver Broncos and NFl Corporate
offices.
Good
day /Denver Broncos
There’s
no real debate to be had, no real question about it: the National
Football League is naively, ignorantly and recklessly funding,
underwriting if not economically powering AM talk radio content, all
across America.. There’s also no question about it the industry
is undeniably Conservative if not more accurately
Neo-Confederate “propaganda,” i.e., one-sided,
tilted, sexist, racist, elitist, bigoted and bias talk-radio.
Let
me make this simple and micro: I’m a starving wordsmith who’s
pounding out my humble thoughts from the “Mile-Hi City,”
home of the Denver Broncos, who’s official radio voice is that
of I-Heart radio’s 850 KOA, a 50’000 watt
“blowtorch” station which reaches 38 states, Mexico and
Canada. Rush Limbaugh is the midday voice and Conservative-minded
Trump backers fill the rest of the 24 hours in a day.
KOA’s
local market monopoly is maintained in large part with the revenue
derived directly from the advertising sponsorship aired during the
Denver Broncos, Additionally the station’s prestigious
business relationship enhances and solidifies KOA’s market
stature and noteirity in the city/state/region - enabling the station
to attract numerous advertisers. . . contributing to their
bottom-line and profits.
In
the finale analyst, KOA is in great part run on the blood, sweat and
tears of Black athletes - ironically and insultingly the very same
racial demographical sector of society the AM hate radio industry
ridicules and scapegoats consistently and constantly. The Broncos,
and numerous other teams in other NFL town’s have identical
working relationships - where in the end, money-makers, the bronze
goose who produce the golden pigskins, who attract the mega
sponsors. Yes, the altra-pro Trump agenda around the clock is
partially, if not argurably financed by the Black athlete - who the
conservative talk show host vilify, degrade and belittle if not
insult their race, their culture and their collectively
liberal/Progressive political positions.
IHeartRadio
also owns 630 KHOW which too is a megaphone for only
Conservative/Republican/Trumpian viewpoints and opinions like Sean
Hannity and Mark Levine. So, in a indirect but direct manner, Black
ball players for the DEnver Broncos fund their hate speech also.
However,
as significant and maybe even more impacting considering the racial
polarization across the US is combining this 24/7 bias messaging with
the strategic, deliberate exclusion of Liberal/Progressive voices,
especially and particularly Afro and Latino-Americans. And please
note, not coincidentally nor by happenstance is this void, this
absence of opposing voices -no instead it’s desired. This
reality banns and bars the vast overwhelming majority of voices,
views, perspectives and observations held by all Americans, including
Americans-of-color. IKOA/IHeartRadio doesn't employ in
regularly scheduled Progressive/Liberal “Left”-minded
African American, Latino, Asian nor Native American host. In prime
time or anytime.
The
NFL finances the silencing of Black opinion and dissent - be it the
branding, barring and banning of Colin Kaepernick or the
underwriting of AM Hate radio.
The
result is a “rigged” radio market, with the obvious
amplification of Conservative “propaganda.”
The
description of talk radio as “fifty shades of angry white men”
defines the present-day climate, feel, flavor and taste of AM talk
radio in the state of Colorado. And crosss the nation. The sound is
that of an angry, hostile industry which openly and defiantly refuses
to incorporate a wide spectrum of host with diverse opinions to draw
and cater-to the potentially diverse listening audience. Rather
instead they chose to cater-to and focus upon Conservative
demographic targets solely and only, by design.
It
seems inclusion of racially/politically diverse opinions and
observations is beyond the realm of consideration for
Iheartradio,which is unwilling and unwanting to extend and broaden
their target audience beyond Conservative listeners. It seems the the
industry rather talk “about” Americans of color, talk
“for” us, but yet not let us “speak for ourselves.”
This is an obvious “suppression” of public expression, a
desire to silence criticism and differing viewpoints.
In
doing so KOA and most of the talk radio industry has strategically
crafted the station’s message/programing to virtually, only
“Conservative-minded individuals.” Their programming
content has drove-away the Americans of color who fit the AM talk
radio demographic target, who would listen-to and, perhaps most
importantly purchase products and services advertised by sponsors -
if only there was programming, i.e., host who set the tone and topic
form a cultural/racial perspective they can relate-to and are
attracted-to.
Talk
radio in Denver, along the front Range, throughout the state and
region if not all across the land sounds like a circa 1957 White
Citizens Council meeting. It sounds as if the host and callers
hold the same political/social and economical stands that the Ku
Klux Klan supports and toutes - minus the overt racial
vulgarities. There’s no question about it - Blacks and other
Americans of color who play for the Broncos, Rockies and Buffaloes
are being pimped by an station/business/industry comprised of angry
white racist. They’re used to attract, organize, galvanized,
motivate and mobilize only a certain segment of the demographic
market White male “Conservatives.”
Talk
radio has been red-lined: “No
Blacks/Mexicans/Asians/Indians . . . or dogs allowed!”
Yes,
undeniably and unquestionably the Broncos are enabling, enhancing,
financing and amplifying “hate radio.” They too are
assisting in the excluding of Americans of color from hosting shows,
i.e., orchestrating and moderating the conversation, crafting the
topics and issues addressed, while shaping the tone, feel, texture
and flavor of the show. Making the show unwelcoming and
hostile to opposing opinions and views ponts.
It
is our hope there’s a realization on the NFL’s behalf
regarding what type deplorable racist/sexist/elitist and exclusionary
message you’re not merely tethered-to, but you too are
enabling, enhancing, financing and amplifying. Adding Insult to
disrespect is the labor of Black men is assisting a company which
refuses-to offer the same mass-communication platform to the
political opposition which speaks-for the vast-overwhelming majority
of African Americans.
Hear
us: Your business is assisting-in excluding and silencing bonafide
political/social opposition and resistance.
It
is our hope you reconsider your business relationship with radio
stations across the nation which broadcast only conservative content
until there’s a legitimate effort made to incorporate a much
more “diverse” range of host who better and more
accurately represent individual markets and America ona whole, It
is also our hope that your refusal to finance and underwrite
one-sided racist and exclusionary dialogue will influence smaller
business which too fund smaller talk radio operations in the
metropolitan market.
Lastly
this communication will serve as documentation a legitimate effort
was made via this public plea, you were asked to analyze and rethink
your “blind commitment” to AM hate radio and retract your
misplaced marketplace clout and influence until changes are made. If
you choose to not recognize this plea, it’ll be taken to
another level.
